Ellinwood (3-3) vs. #3 Central Plains (6-0) Football Preview

Ellinwood Eagles (3-3) will host the #3 Central Plains Oilers (6-0) Friday night.  Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at the Ellinwood High School Football Field.  The forecasted weather for kickoff is 61 degrees.  The game will be broadcasted on High School Cube by the Eagle Sports Network.

Offensive Leaders Preview:

Passing – Sophomore quarterback, #7 Tyson Martinez continues to have a nice season. Completing 53 out of his 92 passes for 902 yards, Martinez has thrown for nine touchdowns in six games.  Martinez is averaging 17.0 yards with each completion with over six different receivers as a passing target.  Last game against Goessel, Martinez threw for 111 yards with one touchdown on 11 competitions.

Rushing – Junior running back Jordan Duvall has brought a hard-hitting style to the running game this season.  He leads the team with 583 rushing yards on 84 carries, averaging 97.2 rushing yards per game.  He also has nine touchdowns on the ground.  Last week, Duvall rushed for 73 yards with a touchdown on 17 carries.  He’s not the only one running the ball well, as junior Kaleb Schartz is averaging 80.8 yards rushing per game.  Schartz had 100 rushing yards on 22 plays last week.

Receiving – Senior receiver Mark Waite is leading the receivers this year as he is averaging 18.1 yards per catch with 21 receptions and two touchdowns.  Sophomore Tate Fisher continues to gain attention for opposing defenses as his numbers grow.  He has 12 competitions for three touchdowns while averaging 24.4 yards per catch.  Last week, Waite caught two passes but failed to gain any yardage.  However, Fisher had one catch for 60 yards with a touchdown.  Schartz had a good night with four receptions for 40 yards. 

Defense Preview:

Jordan Duvall continues to lead the Eagles on defense.  In six games so far, he has tallied 32 solo/15 assisted tackles.  He is averaging 7.8 tackles per game.  Junior linebacker Chance Baker is next in line with 24 solo/6 assisted tackles.  Last week, Baker had one of his better games of the season by making 8 tackles.  The defensive linemen consist of junior Steven Cortez (3.2 tackles/game), senior Keaton Goering (2.8 tackles/game) and junior Josiah Caspers (2.0 tackles/game).  Each has a sack on the season thus far.  As for the defensive backs for the Eagles, Mark Waite has two interceptions with 22 total tackles and Tyson Martinez has two interception with 14 tackles this season.

Getting to know your opponent:

The #3 Central Plains Oilers (6-0), coached by Chris Steiner, are one of the better teams in the state this season.  After squeaking out a close win vs. Little River last week (22-6), the Oilers have outscored all of their opponents 320-42.

Two players to watch:

1.       #3 – WR/S – Senior, Layne Bieberle – 10 touchdowns with only 16 catches this season.  Last season, Layne caught 46 passes for 1,048 yards and 24 touchdowns.  Compiled 123 total tackles and 10 interceptions last season

2.       #10 – QB/DB – Junior, Braedan Crites – Passed for 2,051 yards and 38 touchdowns last season.  Crites had 47 total tackles and three interceptions last season.
