The Ellinwood Eagle basketball teams will start the 2015 season off on Tuesday against the St. John Tigers (.  After nearly a month break from competition, the basketball teams are eager to start playing again.  The Lady Eagles finished the 2014 portion of the season going 6-0 with wins over Russell, Ellis and St. John to win the Keady Pre-Season Basketball Classic in Larned.  The Lady Eagles are led by senior’s Rachel Doll (21.3 points/per game) and Delaney Beckwith (13.7 ppg).  St. John will come into Ellinwood on Tuesday night seeking revenge after the Lady Eagles defeated them 48-36 on December 13th.  The Tigers are led by the senior duo of Tara and Teresa Christie.

On the men’s side, the Eagles have faced a brutal schedule thus far.  They have losses to #5 Spearville (2A), #9 (4-IIA) Larned and #10 Ellis (2A), but have hard-fought wins against Russell, Macksville and Ell-Saline.  With Derek Joiner as the first year head coach, the Eagles are playing at a higher level than in years past.   The Eagles are led by senior Marc Waite (13.2 ppg) and sophomore Tyson Martinez (9.2 ppg).  However, the schedule won’t get much easier as Ellinwood will host the #1 team in 2A and defending state champion, St. John Tigers (7-0).  The Tigers main threat is senior Dean Wade (26.0 ppg), who has signed with Kansas State University to play basketball for the Wildcats next season.

On Friday, Jan. 16th, Ellinwood will travel to Macksville to take on the Mustangs.
