Weekly Sports Update (10/13/14 - 10/18/14)

Five Lady Eagles made the trip to Dodge City Friday and Saturday for the 3-2-1A state tennis tournament.  As a team, Ellinwood finished 2nd overall with 24 teams representing.  Senior Rachel Doll and senior Danae Patten finished 6th overall and went 3-2 over the weekend.  Junior Mikayla Monday and junior Katie Shafer finished 9th overall and had a record of 4-2.  Mattie Shafer finished 2-2 as well.  Wichita Collegiate finished 1st with 44 points, Ellinwood was 2nd with 19 points and Central Plains finished 3rd with 19 points as well.

The Eagle Cross Country team traveled to Kinsley on Thursday for the Central Prairie League tournament.  The Lady Eagle varsity team finished 1st overall.  Junior Abbie Reichuber finished 1st, sophomore Maddie Hayes finished 4th, freshman Cailey Carmen finished 6th and senior McKenna Rugan finished 7th.  The varsity boys’ team had a good showing as well.  Senior Morgan Feemster finished 3rd and junior Avery Pike finished 10th.  Next, the cross country teams will travel to Meade on Saturday for Regionals.  Girls start at 3:00 p.m. and the boys will start at 4:00 p.m.

The Lady Eagle volleyball team traveled to Hoisington over the weekend for the Central Prairie League tournament that was hosted by Central Plains.  The Lady Eagles took 3rd place.  The first match of the day, they faced Otis-Bison and defeated them 25-19, 25-14.  The second match they defeated Ness City by a score of 25-23, 29-27.  For the third match, the Lady Eagles met up with LaCrosse and lost 17-25, 17-25.  The last match of the day, they battled with Central Plains and lost 11-25, 24-26.  Next up, the Lady Eagles will travel to Spearville for Sub-state on Saturday, October 25th.

The Middle School volleyball team hosted LaCrosse on Thursday.  It was a clean sweep for the Lady Eagles with the A-team winning 25-9, 25-13, B-team winning 25-8, 25-8 and C-team winning 25-16, 25-15.  The team will travel to Ness City on Thursday for the last match of the season.

The Eagle football team hosted the #3 Central Plains Oilers (7-0) Friday night.  They were defeated 0-50.  The Eagles were led on offense by senior wide receiver Marc Waite.  He had one catch for 41 yards that almost led to a touchdown, but was stopped short of the end zone.  Junior Jordan Duvall had 9 rushes with 27 yards on the ground.  He also led the team with 5.5 tackles on defense.  The Eagles (3-4) will travel east to Little River (4-3) on Friday night with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.

The Middle School football team hosted LaCrosse on Thursday for the last home game of the season.  They beat the Leopards 16-6.  They will travel west to Ness City to take on the Eagles on Thursday.
