Weekly Sports Update (10/27/14 - 11/01/14)

Congratulations to the Lady Eagle Cross Country team on Saturday’s second place finish at the Class 2A Girls State meet in Wamego.  Ellinwood scored 72 points for the day, while Maranatha Christian Academy in Shawnee, scored 32.  Junior Abbie Reichuber finished eighth, sophomore Joanna Strecker finished tenth, sophomore Maddie Hayes finished 15th and freshman Cailey Carmen finished 20th.  On the boys’ side, senior Morgan Feemster finished fifth in the Class 2A Boys race.

Last Thursday was Senior Night for the Ellinwood Eagle football team.  Despite leading most of the game, Ellinwood fell short in the final minutes, as Canton-Galva scored two late touchdowns to win the game 48-44.  The running game for Ellinwood had their best game of the season as they compiled 365 rushing yards.  Junior Jordan Duvall played his best game of the year as he rushed for 244 yards on the ground with two touchdowns.  Junior Kaleb Schartz rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns as well.  Sophomore quarterback Tyson Martinez passed for 145 yards in the air on five catches for a touchdown.  Sophomore Tate Fisher caught two passes for 105 yards, Duvall with two catches for 23 yards and senior wide receiver Marc Waite had one catch for a touchdown.  Ellinwood had three defenders with personal bests for tackles.  Junior Chance Baker had 12 tackles, freshman Drew Blake had 11 tackles and Kaleb Schartz finished with 11 tackles.  The Eagles finish their first season of 8-Man football going 3-6.
